Religious Worker Program Extension Bill Signed

On October 10, 2008, President Bush signed into law a bill to extend the religious worker program (S. 3606) through March 6, 2009. The bill ordered the Department of Homeland Security to "issue final regulations to eliminate or reduce fraud related to the granting of special immigrant status for special immigrants" who are non-minister religious workers and professionals, and gave DHS a 30-day deadline. The bill will become effective as soon as DHS issues the required regulations and certification.
